I’m John Black (He/Him), a Scottish Assistant Editor.

In 2024, I was one of four NFTS x Prime Video Craft Academy Trainees based in Scotland. I specialised in post-production, working across various different projects, from HETV Drama, Feature Documentaries, and Unscripted Television. Some of my placements included working at Clear Cut Pictures, Firecrest Films, and BSQUARED Post.

Most notably, I worked on Since Yesterday: The Untold Story of Scotland’s Forgotten Girlbands as an Assistant Editor, it was an incredible experience. You can watch it on BBC iPlayer here.

Between the placements, I worked as a freelance editor and colourist through my company Social Animal Films. Some of my previous clients include EmilyTest Suicide Prevention, GMAC Film, Anti-Racisim Collaborative (ARC) and bands across Scotland, from Withered Hand to Fog Bandits. Most notably, I edited a music video for the Camera Obscura single ‘Big Love’, which you can watch here.

At the moment, I’m editing an advert for InTogether, a charity that helps support parents who have children with additional support needs.

You may have seen me before as Wet Glasgow Guy on Glasgow Live, The Daily Record, and other papers of record.
