I’m John Black (He/Him), a Scottish editor and videographer.
I’m a graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and I’m currently one of four NFTS & Amazon Prime Video Craft Academy trainees based in Glasgow.
Through the traineeship, I’ve developed my skills as an edit assistant and camera trainee. So far I’ve worked with companies such as Firecrest Films, Forest of Black, and Progressive Broadcast on a number of different projects. a role thats I’m also excited to expand my knowledge as a camera trainee throughout the year.
Between placements, I work as a freelance editor and colourist through my company Social Animal Films. Some of my previous clients include EmilyTest Suicide Prevention, GMAC Film, Anti-Racisim Collaborative (ARC) and bands across Scotland, from Withered Hand to Fog Bandits. Most recently, I’ve finished editing a music video for Camera Obscura’s single ‘Big Love’, which you can watch here.
At the moment, I’m editing a music video which was awarded funding through the RCS Make it Happen scheme.
You may have seen me before as “Wet Glasgow Guy” on Glasgow Live, The Daily Record, and other papers of record.
